Once a year riders from all around the world (more than 30 countries) gather to take on La Ruta Challenge.
Today, La Ruta de Los Conquistadores is the name for the four day mountain bike race that traverses this Central American country from the west coast town of Jaco to the caribbean beach of Playa Bonita. Crossing Costa Rica from the Pacific to the Caribean is no easy task there is a central volcanic chain of mountains that extends north/south which rises 3432 meters (11259 feet) above sea level, there is no way around it except climbing over it after four hard days of moutain biking, participants will have accumulated 12000 meters (40000) of climbing, will have experienced 8 different microclimates with distinct flora and fauna and will have faced many obstacles like river crossings, cold mountian passes, hot tropical jungle trails in this 360km (225 miles) adventure.
Its not a ride in the park the grades of the hills are steep the climate can be extreme (both ways cold and hot), you must be a true adventure lover and a great athelete to enjoy this event. La Ruta will challenge even the most seasoned racer and will pound humility to many that talk the talk but will not walk the walk... having been warned. |
